Mary Elizabeth (Kleinsorge) Brooks

November 10, 1941 ~ November 22, 2017 (age 76)


            Mary Elizabeth Brooks, 76, of Mexico, formerly of rural Wellsville, passed away at 3:10 a.m., Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at Moore-Pike Nursing Home in Bowling Green, Missouri.

            Mrs. Brooks was born November 10, 1941, in Wellsville, Missouri, a daughter of Charles August and Mary Missouri (Morris) Kleinsorge. 

            She was a 1959 graduate of Wellsville-Middletown R-1 High School.

            On August 16, 1959 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Wellsville, she married Stanley Joseph Brooks.  He preceded her in death on December 25, 2013.

            Mary had lived in Mexico since 2011.  Prior to that, she lived in rural Wellsville on the family farm, where she and Stanley raised Black Angus Cattle.

            She was a homemaker and housewife.  Mary had been a secretary at Canterbury Farm Center in the early 70’s.  In the 1980’s, she was the secretary to the Superintendent at Wellsville-Middletown R-1 School. 

            Mary was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Wellsville.  She was also a former member of the Harmony Club.  Mary enjoyed helping her kids with their 4-H projects.

            She liked embroidery, reading, working crossword and word search puzzles and gardening, especially her rose bushes.  Mary was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. 

            Mary is survived by her children and their spouses, Theresa Jane and Brad Shramek, of Middletown, Artie Joseph and Keela Brooks, of Perry and Peggy Sue and Mark Baugh, of Middletown; five grandchildren, Steve Shramek, of Vandalia, Pamela and Zach Barczewski, of Fenton, Kayla and Jason Wieczorek, of Perry, Lisa and Mathew Martin, of Perry and Ashley Baugh and fiance’ Michael Luebrecht, of Curryville and four great-grandchildren, Kaylee Shramek, of Vandalia, Penelope Barczewski, of Fenton and Keaton O’Neal and Jaelyn Wieczorek, of Perry.

            She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Joseph Brooks and parents, Charles and Mary Kleinsorge.

            Visitation was held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 24, 2017 at the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville.

            Private funeral services were at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 25, 2017 at the funeral home.  Rev. Luke Wolters officiated.  Serving as organist was Beth Schnitker.

            Burial was in Sunrise Memorial Gardens, north of Montgomery City.  Serving as pallbearers were Mark Baugh, Jim Kleinsorge, Steve Kleinsorge, Willis Kleinsorge, Brad Shramek and Steve Shramek.  Honorary pallbearer was Matthew Spiers.
