Edward Dosin McCurdy, 95, of Wellsville, passed away peacefully Friday, September 14, 2018 at Gamma Road Lodge in Wellsville, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. McCurdy was born July 15, 1923 in Pike County, Missouri, a son of Charles Buck and Iva May (Dowell) McCurdy.
On March 15, 1945 in Vandalia, Missouri, he married Margaret June Campbell. Ed and Margaret have shared over 73 years of marriage together and are the parents of five daughters.
They had lived in Middletown from 1949 before moving to Wellsville in 1990, where they have since resided.
Ed was a self-employed carpenter, building 4 houses for him and Margaret. He was a handy man, generously helping friends and neighbors. Ed had worked for Myers Funeral Home for many years. He started out working for Howard Myers, driving the ambulance in the Wellsville and Middletown area in 1963. In 1965, he obtained his Funeral Director license and started working as a Funeral Director for Howard and then Kent and later Jane and Jill.
He was a former member of Old Fellows Club in Vandalia and Modern Woodman in Martinsburg.
Ed loved gardening, woodworking and cutting wood. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends and never met a stranger.
Ed is survived by his wife, Margaret June McCurdy, of Wellsville; daughters, Judith Grace Canterbury and husband, Don, of Wellsville, Edna Fern Berry and husband, Bill, of Wellsville, Debbie Irene Welch, of Vandalia and Vicki June Lemasters and husband, Steve, of Mexico; son-in-law, Jim Long, of Paris; grandchildren and spouses, Hanna and Lynn Bass, of Chandler, Arizona, Aaron, Welch, of Laddonia, Amy Bishop, of Mexico, Ashley Welch, of Vandalia, Bradley and Becky Lemasters, of O’Fallon and Gregory Lemasters, of Warrensburg; great-grandchildren, Allison, Lucas and Dillon Bass, of Chandler, Arizona, Alexis and Aaliyah Welch, of Laddonia, Rhett and Bryce Bishop, of Mexico, Alizabeth Welch, of Mexico and Amelia and Davis Lemasters, of O’Fallon; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Patricia May Long; son-in-law, Allen Andrew Welch; five brothers, Willie Hoy McCurdy, Merle Jack McCurdy, Thomas Albert McCurdy, Charles Joseph “Joe” McCurdy and George Willard McCurdy and sister, Lily Grace DeTienne.
Visitation was held from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., Sunday, September 16, 2018 at the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville.
Funeral services were at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 17, 2018 at the funeral home. Rev. Sammy Lorton officiated.
Burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery in rural Vandalia, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were his grandchildren, Hanna Bass, Dillon Bass, Amy Bishop, Bradley Lemasters, Gregory Lemasters, Aaron Welch and Ashley Welch.
