Anna Elizabeth Christian, 96, of Wellsville, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2019 at St. Andrew’s of New Florence.
Mrs. Christian was born September 10, 1922 in Wellsville, Missouri, a daughter of William Harrison “Harry” and Sarah Elizabeth (Preston) Burch.
Elizabeth’s sister, Alpha Pearl Burch, was married to William Coleman Christian. Alpha was killed when Mardell was 11 months old and Ott was 4 years old. Elizabeth moved in to help take care of the children and later married Mr. Christian and they started their family together. He preceded her in death by June 5, 1956.
Elizabeth had lived in Wellsville all of her life. She was a babysitter and had worked at Swingmaster Garment Factory.
She enjoyed embroidering, especially pillow cases and scarves. Elizabeth liked gardening, flowers were her favorite and she had raised African violets. The most important thing to her was being with her family.
Elizabeth is survived by her daughters, Della Mae Walag, of Corydon, Iowa and Martha Kay McCormack and husband, Alan, of Williamsburg; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; brother and sisters-in-law, Carl Henry and Melba Burch, of Montgomery City and Yvonne Burch, of Wellsville; in addition to numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Coleman Christian; companion, Douglass Leon Penn; sons, Bobby Christian, Danny Christian, Arthur William “Ott” Christian, Harold Donald Christian and an infant son; daughters, Gloria Sue Hicks, Delores Fay Hank and Mardell Harlan; sister, Alpha Pearl Christian; brothers, James William Burch, Claude Lee Burts, Robert Lawrence Burch, Benjamin Leroy Burch, Marion Louis Burts, Stanley Porter Burch and Grover Harrison Burts.
Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville. Gene Burch officiated.
Visitation was held from 12:00 noon until the time of service, Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Burial was in the Wellsville Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Chris Barr, Brian Hughes, Faith Light, Nathan McCormack, Allison Talley and Danny Rug Tarrants.. Honorary pallbearers were Aaron Barr, Amanda Barr, Beverly Dowell, Braden Hughes, Emilee Elizabeth Hughes and Ericka Hughes.
