            Gary Wayne Gooch, 81, of Mineola, passed away at 5:15 a.m., Friday, December 22, 2017 at Evelyn’s House Hospice in Creve Coeur, Missouri.

            Mr. Gooch was born May 13, 1936 in Wellsville, Missouri, a son of Earl and Martha Frances Elizabeth (Hudlin) Gooch. 

            On March 30, 1957 in Wellsville, Missouri, he married Dorothy Mae Jackson, sharing over 58 years together.  She preceded him in death on June 29, 2015.

            Gary served his country in the United States Army, serving in the Korean War, entering on May 15, 1953 and being honorably discharged on May 2, 1956.  He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. 

            Gary and Dorothy lived in St. Charles from 1957 until they moved to Mineola in 2005. 

            He worked several years as a heavy equipment operator for the union, Local 513 in St. Louis.  Prior to that, Gary had worked for a time on a barge in New Orleans, Louisiana.  They left St. Louis and dredged the river on their way down.  In his earlier years, he was part owner in a machine shop in St. Charles, “NPD.”

            Gary was a member of V.F. W. in Orchard Farm and American Legion in St. Charles.

            He loved feeding the hummingbirds and crows.  Gary liked metal detecting and arrowhead hunting, collecting hundreds over the years.  He really enjoyed gardening and had harvested over 2,000 pounds of tomatoes in a season and made the best Bloody Mary mix.

            Gary is survived by his daughters, Carolyn Sue Gooch, of Florissant and Kari Denise Williams and husband, Mark Sailor, of St. Charles; granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Anthony and husband, Bryan, of Cleveland, Ohio; great-grandson, Elliot Allen Anthony, of Cleveland, Ohio; brothers and sisters-in-law, William Dean “Bill” and Diane Gooch, of Mountain Grove and James Everett “Jim” and Mary Gooch, of Wellsville; brother-in-law, Charles Fredrick “Charlie” Jackson, of Mexico and sister-in-law, Huldia Elizabeth Cox, of Fulton; in addition to nieces and nephews. 

            He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Martha Gooch; wife, Dorothy Mae Gooch; son, Randall Wayne “Randy” Gooch; grandson, Casey Glen Williams; brother and sister-in-law, Earl Fredrick and Marie Gooch; sisters, Izetta Marie Gooch and Elizabeth Jane “Betty” Baugh and husband, Teddy; brothers-in-law, Eugene Joseph “Gene” Jackson and Lewis Butch Cox and sister-in-law, Yvonne “Vonnie” Jackson.

            Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 28, 2017 at the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville.  Rev. Dawn Gerard officiated. 

            Burial was in the Wellsville Cemetery in Wellsville, Missouri.  Serving as pallbearers were Bryan Anthony, Jessica Anthony, Diane Brennan, Carolyn Gooch, Kari Williams and Greg Williams.

            Full Military Honors were provided by Wellsville V.F.W. Post 3056.  Missouri Military Honors Program folded and presented the U.S. Flag to his daughters. 

            Visitation was held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service, Thursday, at the funeral home.

            Memorial contributions were suggested to the Wellsville Cemetery Association c/o Myers Funeral Home, 203 East Bates Street, Wellsville, MO 63384.
