                Herbert Alfred Hammond, 97, of Middletown, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at New Florence Nursing and Care Center in New Florence, Missouri.

                Mr. Hammond was born May 14, 1920 in St. Louis, Missouri, a son of Roy D.  and Florence (Jettun) Hammond. 

                Herbert served his country in the United States Army during World War II, entering on January 23, 1943 and being honorably discharged on February 13, 1946.  He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal. 

                On December 2, 1977 in Clayton, Missouri, he married Anna Mae Burton Fehr, sharing over 40 years together.  They have lived in Middletown the past 30 years and in Overland, Missouri, before that.

                Herbert had been a painter for Joseph Rabe for 25 years.  Prior to that, he was employed at Famous Barr as a foreman painter for 13 years.  Together, Herbert and Anna, had worked for Tinsley Amusement for 6 years, traveling across the United States, working multiple jobs with the carnival.

                He was a member of Wellsville VFW Post 3056 and former member of Middletown Lions Club.  Herbert was a very active volunteer for We Care Food Pantry in Montgomery City with his wife, Anna. 

                Herbert enjoyed oil painting and liked to paint barns, houses and landscapes.  He also liked gardening and canning.  In most recent years, he enjoyed playing cards.  More than anything, he loved to be around his family.  

                Herbert is survived by his wife, Anna Mae Hammond, of the home in Middletown; son, Roy Lee Hammond, of Farmington; daughter and son-in-law, Janet Lee “Jan” and Larry Malone, of Stony Hill; step-son, Ralph Ronald “Ron” Fehr and wife, Patricia, of Troy; four step-grandchildren, John Fehr, of St. Louis, Brian Fehr, of St. Charles, Tad Fehr and wife, Mindy, of Warrenton and Steve Fehr and fiancée, Corrina, of Dallas, Texas.

                He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter-in-law, Becky Hammond.

                Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 23, 2018 at the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville.  Rev. Allen Laramore officiated.

                Visitation was held from 12:00 noon until the time of service, Monday, at the funeral home.

                Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery in Middletown, Missouri.  Serving as pallbearers were Ben Burton, Earl Burton, Randy Morts, Jim Norton, Tom Norton and Matthew Rickard. 

                Full Military Honors were provided by Wellsville VFW Post 3056.  Missouri Military Funeral Honors folded and presented the United States Flag.
