Elizabeth Irene Gooch, 86, of Wellsville, passed away Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri.
Mrs. Gooch was born July 30, 1933 in Olney, Missouri, a daughter of Original Sylvester and Ione Winniford (Henderson) Gilbert.
Irene was a graduate of Bellflower High School.
On July 12, 1965 in Mexico, Missouri, she married Glen Howard Gooch. He preceded her in death on November 30, 1996.
Irene and Glen had lived in Wellsville from 1960 – 1979, in Jonesburg from 1979 – 1995 and then moved back to Wellsville in 1995.
She had been employed at Save More in the deli department from 1999-2004. Prior to that, she had worked at Beacon Shoe Factory in Jonesburg from 1966-1997.
Irene had attended the United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in Wellsville. She was a former member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Wellsville Cemetery Association.
Irene enjoyed sewing, needlepoint and crocheting. She also liked cooking and baking, making various types of wedding and birthday cakes over the years. Irene also loved playing cards, especially hand and foot and pinochle.
Irene is survived by her seven children, John Steven Ham and wife, Vicki, of Turnwater, Washington, Marsha Ann Ham, of Brandon, Florida, Gary Wayne Ham, of Montgomery City, Vanessa Lynn Rodrigues, of Montgomery City, Patricia Irene Stoner and husband, Tony, of Moberly, James Edward Gooch, of Mexico and Dennis Ray Gooch, of Auxvasse; 13 grandchildren, 8 plus great-grandchildren and sister, Linda Kay Barnes, of Wellsville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glen Howard Gooch; infant brother, William Ira Gilbert; sister, Vesta Ann Johnston and nephew, Ralph Barnes.
Graveside services were at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at the Wellsville Cemetery. Rev. Mike Carmi officiated. Serving as pallbearers were Dennis Gooch, James Gooch, Lacey Gooch, Darren Gooch, Chris Gilbert and James “JP” Stoner.
Services were under the direction of the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville.
