Leora Mae Arens, 88, of Wellsville, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at her home, surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Arens was born March 8, 1931 in St. Clair, Missouri, a daughter of Leo Joseph and Veronica Ida (Siess) Donner.
On June 23, 1951 in St. Clair, Missouri, she married Leo Anthony Arens, sharing almost 60 years of marriage together. He preceded her in death on June 2, 2011.
Leora had lived at her present address since 2004. Prior to that, she had lived in rural Wellsville with her husband, Leo and their family since 1959.
At the age of 16, Leora had started working for International Shoe Company in St. Clair. She also had raised chickens and sold eggs to Steele’s Hatchery in Wellsville for several years.
Leora was a member of the Church of the Resurrection in Wellsville. She was also a member of Montgomery County Extension Club and the Neighborhood Club. In later years, she was a volunteer at Gamma Road Lodge in Wellsville.
She enjoyed sewing and crocheting and had made beautiful quilts. Leora enjoyed being in the outdoors, especially in the woods. She liked gardening and was an avid fisherwoman. Leora loved cooking and was famous for her cake donuts and homemade bread and rolls. She babysat for her grandchildren for many years.
Leora is survived by her five children and spouses, Jean Marie and Coy Dollens, of Centralia, Bernice Irene and Gene Oliver, of Wellsville, Wayne Anthony and Ann Marie Arens, of Villa Ridge, Daniel Francis and Tina Arens, of Wellsville and Karen Ann Aldrich, of Ft. Walton, Florida; nine grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; six brothers and sisters, James Leroy (Geraldine) Donner, of Union, Stanley Leo Donner and dear friend, Amelia, of Bland, Francis Joseph “Frank” (Libby) Donner, of Norwick, Connecticut, Vincent Paul (Maggie) Donner, of Belgium, France, Charles Eugene (Margie) Donner, of Bourbon and Robert Leo (Pat) Donner, of Beach Grove, Tennessee; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo Anthony Arens; brother, Marvin Leo Donner and sister, Joan Lillian Carroll.
Mass of Christian Burial was at 12:00 noon, Monday, April 29, 2019 at Church of the Resurrection in Wellsville. Father Austin Okoli and Deacon Ron Deimeke officiated. Serving as organist was Palmyra Dubbert. Cantor was Brenda Hale.
Visitation was held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service, Monday, at the church.
Burial was in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Wellsville, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were her grandsons, Ryan Arens, John Brickler, Tony Dollens, Josh Oliver, Ki Oliver and Paul Oliver.
Services were under the direction of the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville.
