May 31, 1928 ~ October 8, 2019 (age 91)

Obituary

Margaret June McCurdy, 91, of Wellsville, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri.

Mrs. McCurdy was born May 31, 1928 in Wellsville, Missouri, a daughter of Floyd Wesley and Edna Irene (Dillion) Campbell.

On March 15, 1945 in Vandalia, Missouri, she married Edward Dosin McCurdy.  They shared over 73 years of marriage together and are the parents of five daughters.  He preceded her in death on September 14, 2018.

Margaret and Ed had lived in Wellsville since 1990.  Prior to that, they made their home in Middletown from 1949 – 1990.

Margaret was the owner and operator of Ed and Mag’s Café in Middletown from the early 1960’s to the mid 1970’s.  She later went to work at the Wellsville IGA, where she began employment on January 29, 1975 and retired on July 14, 1990.

Margaret enjoyed cooking, but her real enjoyment came from sharing what she cooked.  At Christmas time you could be guaranteed a box of homemade candies, especially her peanut brittle.  Around St. Patrick’s Day numerous batches of corned beef and cabbage were made and given to family and many friends who looked forward to this treat each year.  It would be difficult to guess how many pies she made and shared through the years, but everything she made had her love stirred in.

Some of her favorite hobbies were reading, riding her motorcycle, watching birds, collecting red cardinal birds and gardening.  Her family will tell you she was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed.

Margaret is survived by her four daughters and sons-in-law, Judith Grace and Don Canterbury and Edna Fern and Bill Berry, of Wellsville, Debbie Irene Welch, of Vandalia and Vicki June and Steve Lemasters, of Mexico; son-in-law, Jim Long, of Paris; grandchildren and spouses, Hanna and Lynn Bass, of Chandler, Arizona, Aaron Welch, of Laddonia, Amy Bishop, of Mexico, Ashley Welch, of Vandalia, Bradley and Becky Lemasters, of O’Fallon and Gregory Lemasters, of Warrensburg; great-grandchildren, Allison Guerra and husband, Nathan and Lucas and Dillon Bass, of Chandler, Arizona, Jerry Driesward, of Laddonia, Alexis and Aaliyah Welch, of Laddonia, Rhett and Bryce Bishop, of Mexico, Alizabeth Welch, of Mexico and Amelia and Davis Lemasters, of O’Fallon; sisters-in-law, Lena Campbell, of Mexico and Virginia See, of Vandalia.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward McCurdy; daughter, Patricia May Long; son-in-law, Allen Andrew Welch; brothers, Herman Campbell and Floyd Campbell; sisters, Edna Wesley Davidson, May Bell “Mabel” Eskew and Mildred Lucille Thurman.
