Marjorie "Margie" Mae (Eckler) Yelton

December 12, 1927 ~ November 29, 2018 (age 90)

            Marjorie Mae Yelton, 90, of Moberly, formerly of Wellsville, passed away Thursday, November 29, 2018 at Moberly Regional Medical Center in Moberly, Missouri.

            Mrs. Yelton was born December 12, 1927 in Wellsville, Missouri, a daughter of Roger Ellis Eckler Sr. and Katherine Elizabeth (Schumann) Eckler. 

            She was a 1945 graduate of Wellsville High School. 

            On April 10, 1949 at the United Methodist Church in Wellsville, she married Earl Edward Yelton.  They shared 48 years of marriage together, before he preceded her in death on April 2, 1997. 

            Marjorie had lived in Wellsville all of her life until moving to Moberly in the fall of 2011 to be closer to her children. 

            She had been a school cook for the elementary school from 1969 until she retired in 1989.  While she was a cook, many called her “Aunt Margie.”  Marjorie had also worked at Mattingly’s Department Store in Wellsville.

            Marjorie was a member of the Wellsville United Methodist-Presbyterian Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher for the nursery, member of Guild as well as the Ladies Quilting Club.  She also helped with many church dinners, where she made her famous angel biscuits.  Marjorie was also a former member of Studere.  While her children were growing up, she had been a Brownie Leader and Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. 

            She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, reading and coloring.  Marjorie was an excellent cook and loved to bake, especially cookies and candy. 

            Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Earlene Mae Yelton, of Salisbury; son and daughter-in-law, David Earl and Suzann Yelton, of Kirksville; step-grandchildren, Rebecca Roberts, of Kirksville and Aaron Roberts, of Manchester; sisters and brothers-in-law, Katherine Maxine and Orville Welker, of Montgomery City and Glenda Sue and Jim Angel, of Mexico; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Eckler, of Wellsville; brother-in-law, George Jacobi, of Wellsville; in addition to nieces and nephews.

            She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl Edward Yelton; sisters, Dorothy Jean Porter and Frances Marie Jacobi and brothers, Roger Ellis Eckler Jr. and Harold Thomas Eckler. 

            Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 2, 2018 at the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville.  Rev. Helen McFarlane officiated.  Serving as organist was Cleta Mertz.  Soloist was Connie Andrews.

            Visitation was held from 12:00 noon until the time of service, Sunday, at the funeral home.

            Burial was in the Wellsville Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were Walter Andrews, Aaron Angel, Andy Eckler, Kenny Jacobi, John Welker and Raymond Welker.
