Michael "Mike" Norman Griswold

December 12, 1962 ~ August 12, 2018 (age 55)

Michael Norman “Mike” Griswold, 55, of Centralia, transitioned into the Kingdom of God unexpectedly on Sunday, August 12, 2018, where he has joyfully connected with his maker, Eloheim.

Mike, son of Arthur Norman and Joyce (Keith) Griswold, was born on December 12, 1962 in Columbia, Missouri.

He was a 1981 graduate of Paris High School.

On September 22, 1984 in Bowling Green, Missouri, he married Marcia Gay “Marcy” Barnett.  They shared over 33 years together and were the parents of 4 children.

Mike enjoyed cooking, playing tennis, deer hunting and meeting with the S.O.B.’s in Paris on Wednesday nights for dinner.  More than anything, he loved spending time with his family.

We could tell you of all the great accomplishments in our Dad’s life, such as attending the University of Missouri, being a golf course superintendent, owning a business and being an entrepreneur. These achievements, however, did not define our father.  He is the greatest Dad and Husband to us, and we will cherish the time we were blessed to have with him here on earth.  Although it was short, we see his grin and hear his laugh in our everyday lives through our children.

Every great man is known for their accomplishments in life, and for most men that is based on where they went to college, how much money they have and what material things they accumulated in life.  My father’s greatest achievement in life is family.  In this way, our father was a rich man who treasured his wife, three sons, daughter, two daughters-in-law, four grandkids, and extended family and friends.

This is the greatest lesson to learn from our father’s life.  The Love for a family and the Love from your family will bring gratitude, joy, passion, excitement, enthusiasm, hope, and satisfaction!  For the rest of our family’s lives we will strive to continue his legacy and honor family.

Mike is survived by his wife, Marcia Gay “Marcy” Griswold, of the home in Centralia; children, Zachary Norman Griswold and wife, Sydney, of Harrison, Arkansas, Nicholas Jay Griswold and wife, Jennifer, of Columbia, Robert Kent Griswold, of Centralia and Shelby Claire Griswold, of Brooklyn, New York; grandchildren, Emery Ruth Griswold, of Columbia and Adalynn Faith Griswold, of Harrison, Arkansas; grandGoddaughter, Addison Paige Greening, of Hallsville; parents, Art and Joyce Griswold, of Paris; mother-in-law, Berna Barnett, of Columbia; sister, Suzanne Cheatham, of Lake Ozark; nephew and niece, Alex and Zowie Cheatham, of Lake Ozark; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ava and Rex Summers, of Columbia, Doug and Jayne Barnett, of Stockton, Denny Barnett, of Phoenix, Maryland and Sharilyn and John Wasser, of Venice, Florida; in addition to aunts, uncles, many cousins and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Giles Griswold; father-in-law, Robert L. Barnett; paternal grandmother, Doris Seiler and maternal grandparents, Elmer and Rilla Keith.

A Celebration of Life Service was held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 18, 2018 at the United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in Wellsville.  Mr. Norman Kaden officiated.

Visitation was held following the Celebration of Life until 7:00 p.m. at the church.

Services were under the direction of the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville.

Memorial contributions were suggested to The Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri c/o Myers Funeral Home, 203 East Bates Street, Wellsville, MO 63384.
