Alberta Glover, 81, of Vandalia, passed away at 7:50 a.m., Thursday, April 14, 2016 at her home.
Mrs. Glover was born August 4, 1934, in Earls, Arkansas, a daughter of Tommy Lee and Fredia Mae (Wright) Wallace.
Alberta married William Glover and he preceded her in death.
Alberta had lived in Vandalia for the last 25 years. Prior to that, she lived in Wellsville. Alberta is a former member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Wellsville.
She was a homemaker and housewife. Alberta had worked as a post office mail clerk in St. Louis, Swingmaster Garment Factory in Wellsville and Gamma Road Lodge.
She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards and fishing. Alberta loved traveling and spending time with her family.
Alberta is survived by her children and their spouses, Doris and Nathaniel Marshall, of Kansas City, Marilyn Houston, of Vandalia, Joseph Houston, of Fort Worth, Texas, Diane Carter, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Tommy Houston, of Seattle, Washington, Percy and Karmen Houston, of Kansas City, Denise Johnson, of Vandalia, Fredrick and Connie Johnson, of Springfield and Robyn Johnson, of Kansas City, Kansas; companion of twenty three years, William "Bo" Hardridge, of Vandalia; twenty-three grandchildren, Katurah Houston, of San Antonio, Texas, Natalie Houston, of Bowling Green, Alisha Houston, of Hannibal, Edward Caldwell, Lamar Caldwell and Eli Marshall, of Kansas City, Shalene Houston, of St. Louis, Ciria Carter, of Overland Park, Kansas, Terrell Carter, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Shamecca Thomas, of Fulton, Marquis Thomas, of Shreveport, Louisiana, Anne Houston, of Blue Springs, Jeffrey Johnson, of Vandalia, Gilbert Hooker, of Mexico, Jenise Johnson, Johnetta Salmon, Verlyn Johnson and Verdell Johnson, of Vandalia, La Shawn Johnson and Houston Johnson, of Springfield and Ebony Johnson, Robert Johnson and Victoria Johnson, of Kansas City, Kansas and twenty-four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Glover; son, Nathaniel "Nate" Houston; infant son, Maurice Johnson; great-grandson, Ja' Brown and sister, Ida Lee Britt.
Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 23rd at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Wellsville. Rev. Otis Lee Hooker and Rev. Alan Johnson officiated.
Serving as pallbearers were Edward Caldwell, Lamar Caldwell, Gilbert Hooker, Jeffrey Johnson, Marquis Thomas and Robert Johnson. Honorary pallbearers were Terrell Carter, Verdell Johnson, Verlyn Johnson, John Shepherd, Larry Shepherd and Mike Shepherd.
Visitation was held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service, Saturday, at the church.
Services were under the direction of the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville.
Memorial contributions were suggested to Myers Funeral Home to offset the cost of funeral expenses c/o Myers Funeral Home, 203 East Bates Street, Wellsville, MO 63384.
