Alice Maebeth "Sis" Spiers, nee Stanford, 94, of Wellsville, passed away at 6:40 a.m., Sunday, March 20, 2016 at Golden Living Center/Gamma Road Lodge in Wellsville, MO.

Mrs. Spiers was born March 26, 1921, in Mexico, Missouri, the daughter of Arthur L. and Mabell (Smock) Stanford.

She was a 1939 graduate of Mexico High School.

On April 8, 1939, in Fulton, Missouri, she married Robert Senf "Bob" Spiers. They moved to Wellsville in 1945, where they made their home and shared over 58 years together. He preceded her in death May 10, 1997.

In the 1960's, Alice worked for Bobbie Brooks Garment Factory in Vandalia. Later she had owned and operated a restaurant in Wellsville, The Family Café. Alice had also worked at Burwells Department Store. While working both in and outside of the home, Alice spent many years nursing and caring for multiple family members.

Alice was a Christian and member of the Wellsville United Methodist-Presbyterian Church. She was a former member of Guild and the Women's Society for Christian Service, (WSCS). Alice was a former member of the American Legion Auxillary and Friends of the Library. She was also a former Girl Scout Leader.

Alice enjoyed reading, crocheting, knitting, quilting, working jigsaw puzzles and refinishing furniture. Alice made a special quilt for each of her children and grandchildren as they prepared for a graduation or wedding. The love sewn into each handmade quilt will be forever cherished. Alice was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and Wellsville-Middletown R-1 Tiger Basketball fan. One of her favorite things to do was to watch her grandchildren participate in musical activities or sports. She especially enjoyed reading the Washington Missourian and Wellsville Optic News each week to keep updated about the teams her grandchildren were playing on or coaching.

Alice is survived by her children and their spouses, Robert Lawrence "Larry" and Barb Spiers, of St. Clair, Jeane and Carl Oligschlaeger, of Wellsville, Charles Thomas "Tom" and Debbie Spiers, of St. Charles and Wallace Leslie "Wally" and Mary Pat Spiers, of Belleville, Illinois; eleven grandchildren, Cindy (Rick) Rajkovich, of Washington, Tim Spiers, of Versailles, Susan Spiers (Erick Charboneau), of Casa Grande, Arizona, Molly (Eric) Smith, of Pacific, Becky (Mike) Friesen, of O'Fallon, Dr. David (Marney) Oligschlaeger, of Shelbyville, Illinois, Daniel (Jody) Oligschlaeger, of Millersburg, Jason Davenport (Crissa Rockwell), of St. Charles, Josh Davenport, of Moscow Mills, Allie (Dan) Kelley, of Belleville, Illinois and Matthew Spiers, of Wellsville; sixteen great-grandchildren, Rachel (Patrick) Gerrein, of Fort Lewis, Washington, Matthew Downey, of Washington, Timmy Smith and Ben Smith, of Pacific, Alice Friesen and Henry Friesen, of O'Fallon, Allison Oligschlaeger and Emily Oligschlaeger, of Shelbyville, Illinois, Gretchen Oligschlaeger and Thomas Oligschlaeger, of Millersburg, Madelyn Davenport, Jordan Davenport, Jaden Davenport and Jase Davenport, of St. Charles and Austin Eishlinger and Eathan Eishlinger, of Moscow Mills; great-great-grandson, Joseph Downey, of Washington; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Senf "Bob" Spiers; granddaughter, Joanna Lynn Spiers; daughter-in-law, Connie Alderson Spiers; brothers, Forrest Clifford Stanford, Wallace Burle Stanford and Byron Virgil Stanford and an infant sister.

Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 26, 2016 at the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville. Sis's nephew, Rev. Bob Stanford officiated along with Rev. Bob Frey. Serving as organist was Eldora Lowry. Sis's grandson, Eric Smith, was the soloist.

Burial was in the Wellsville Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Jason Davenport, Josh Davenport, Mike Friesen, Dan Kelley, Daniel Oligschlaeger, David Oligschlaeger, Matthew Spiers, Tim Spiers and Rick Rajkovich.

Visitation was held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service, 11:00 a.m. Saturday, at the funeral home.
