Betty Jean Shepard, 84, of Fulton, formerly of Wellsville, passed away at 8:30 p.m., Sunday, September 25, 2016 at the University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

Mrs. Shepard was born January 28, 1932, in Bellflower, Missouri, a daughter of Vernie Albert and Opal Hazel (Clark) Rentfro.

On February 14, 1948, in Warrenton, Missouri, she married Paul Wesley Shepard. They shared over 53 years together before he preceded her in death on August 16, 2001.

Betty had lived in Fulton since 2003. Prior to that, she lived in Wellsville from 1955 until 2003.
She had worked as an inspector for the Swingmaster Garment Factory in Wellsville and Bobbie Brooks in Vandalia.

Betty was a former member of the United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in Wellsville. Most recently, she had attended the Fulton Baptist Church.

She enjoyed traveling. Betty always wanted to be an architect and loved drawing up floor plans. She always saved drawings of houses that she liked. Betty was a very spiritual person and read her Bible as well as the Upper Room every day. She also liked writing in her journal daily.

Betty is survived by her children, Lonnie Dale Shepard D.V.M., of Bowling Green, Linda Susan Percival and husband, Dan, of Springfield and Randall Lane "Randy" Shepard and Catherine Legault, of Montgomery City; 6 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother and sisters-in-law, Guy Wendall and Nancy Rentfro, of Tucson, Arizona and Hulda Rentfro, of Lebanon, Tennessee and special friend, Robert Schnarr and wife, Babette, of Cedar Hill.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul Wesley Shepard; son, Robert Wesley Shepard; infant sister, Donna Lea Rentfro and brother, Donald Leroy Rentfro.

Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 30, 2016 at the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville. Rev. Dawn Gerard officiated. Serving as organist was Cleta Mertz. Special music was provided by her nephew, Gary Rentfro.

Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery in Middletown, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were Lonnie Shepard, Randy Shepard, Daniel Shepard, Dan Percival, Robert Schnarr and Gary Rentfro.

Visitation was held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service, Friday, at the funeral home.
