Clarence Joe Hollensteiner, 83, of Wellsville, passed away at 8:05 p.m., Saturday, August 6, 2016 in Montgomery County, Missouri.

Mr. Hollensteiner was born February 12, 1933, in Middletown, Missouri, a son of George Henry and Albertina Molly Wille Hollensteiner.

He served his country in the United States Army, entering on October 26, 1955 and was honorably discharged on October 25, 1957. Joe was a crane operator on his ship. He was the recipient of the Sharpshooter Rifle. Following active duty, he was transferred to the reserves, serving until October 31, 1961.

On June 5, 1959, in Wellsville, Missouri, by Rev. Homer Arendall, he married Betty Lou White, sharing over 57 years together. They had lived on their farm in rural Wellsville for over 40 years before moving to town in October of 2004.

Joe had been employed at HOME Inc. (House of Metal Enclosure) in Hermann for 18 years. Prior to that, he had worked at Montgomery Manufacturing (M&M) in Montgomery City for 25 years.

He was a member of the Middletown Christian Church, where he had served as a Deacon and an Elder.

Joe loved gardening and raising roses. He liked to rebuild motors and had painted several cars, trucks and tractors.

Joe is survived by his wife, Betty Lou Hollensteiner, of Wellsville; son and daughter-in-law, Howard Lee and Karen Marie Hollensteiner, of Montgomery City; in addition to nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Albertina Hollensteiner and brothers, Wilmer Hollensteiner and Charles Albert Hollensteiner.

Memorial services were at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville. Rev. Dan Sites officiated. Serving as organist was Eldora Lowry.

Burial of his cremains was in Fairmount Cemetery in Middletown, Missouri with Rev. William Thompson officiating. Missouri Military Funeral Honors Team folded and presented the United States Flag.

Visitation was held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at the funeral home.
