David Richard Schnaath, 84, of Wellsville, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at his home, with his family by his side.

Mr. Schnaath was born October 23, 1935 in Jennings, Missouri, a son of Gottlieb Henry and Verna Wilhemina (Tuepker) Schnaath.

David served his country in the United States Army, entering on August 5, 1957 and being honorably discharged on May 18, 1960. He was stationed in Germany in 1957 and 1958.

On June 10, 1961 in Pattonville, Missouri, he married Edith Gladys Stroud. They shared over 58 years together and were the parents of 2 daughters.

David and Edith have lived in Wellsville since 1985. Prior to that, they lived in Wentzville for over 20 years.

He worked most of his life as a tool and die maker for Wainwright Industries in O'Fallon. After David retired in 2000, he started farming full time, cattle, hogs and row crops.

David enjoyed coon hunting. He loved farming and had collected John Deere tractors, even restoring a couple over the years. After retiring, he had a small machine shop that he made small repairs for his neighbors and friends. Some of David's happiest times were on the farm, gathered around a campfire, visiting with his family.

David is survived by his wife, Edith Gladys Schnaath, of the home in Wellsville; daughters and sons-in-law, Kim Eileen and Joseph Zoellner, of Marthasville and Amy Elizabeth and Tom Wolf, of Troy; four grandchildren, Joe Zoellner, of Marthasville, Amanda (Zack) Donaldson, of O'Fallon, Kristen (Jeremy) Keeler, of Troy and Kara Wolf, of Troy and great-grandchildren, Sophie, Selah and Caleb Donaldson, of O'Fallon and one soon to be great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Wesley Wolf and sister, Arlene Goode.

A Celebration of Life Service was held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 29, 2020 at the Warrenton Christian Church.

Full Military Honors were provided by American Legion Post 180 in Marthasville. Missouri Military Funeral Honors folded and presented the United States Flag to his wife, Edith.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville.
