Donald Ray Barr, 63, lifelong Middletown resident, passed away Thursday December 22, 2022, at his home.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday December 28, 2022, at Myers Funeral Home in Middletown with Pastor John Foster officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Donnie was born January 8, 1959, in Mexico. He was the son of Glen and Wanda (Tapley) Barr.

He lived all his life in Middletown except for his time in the service. In 1982 he enlisted in the Navy for four years. He served as a radar technician on the USS William V. Pratt. His ship was called to assist after the bombing of Beirut where 299 service members lost their lives. Donnie was part of the group that cleaned up the area of the bombing while searching for survivors. Following his service he moved back to Middletown. He went to work at the Jonesburg Shoe Factory until the plant closed.

Donnie enjoyed the outdoors. He loved rock hunting and exploring the creeks and rivers around Middletown.

Survivors include one brother, Glen (Sandy) Barr, of Montgomery City; three sisters, Jude Turner, of St. Charles, Jackie (Gordon) Schrader, of St. Peters, and Tami (Bill) Leverett, of Middletown; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ralph Barr; and two nephews, Ted Barr and Matthew Leverett.

Memorials may be given to the Montgomery City Animal Shelter. They may be sent in care of Myers Funeral Home, 203 E. Bates Street, Wellsville, MO 63384.
