Donald Lee Canterbury, 84, of Wellsville, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Landmark Hospital in Columbia, Missouri with Judy, his life partner, by his side.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 25, 2025, at Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville, with Martin Higgenbotham officiating. Burial will follow at the Wellsville Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Friday, July 25, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Don was born on September 9, 1940 in Wellsville, the son of Loyd Lester and Lillian Almeta (Moore) Canterbury.  On December 17, 1966 he married Judith McCurdy at the Middletown Christian Church in Middletown, Missouri, who survives and will continue their farm legacy. Don and Judy built their farm side by side, each one helping the other as the farm life was their pride and joy.

Don attended Whitehall country school in rural Wellsville until the 7th grade. After the reorganization of schools, he attended the Wellsville schools and graduated from high school in 1957. He went on to serve his country in the US National Guard for 6 years, being honorably discharged on August 28, 1967.

Don lived his entire life in the Wellsville area, all within a few miles of where he was born. He retired in 2002 from the Wellsville Firebrick Company after working there for 40 years. In addition to working at the brick plant, Don row cropped and raised cattle. He enjoyed staying busy always having a project or two which included restoring and bringing back to life many tractors and implements. Another enjoyment Don had was to go on horseback trail rides with the Rough Country Trail Riders group.

In addition to his wife Judy, survivors include one sister, Barbara Foster; three sisters-in-law, Sandy Canterbury, Debbie Welch, and Vicki Lemasters (Steve); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Loyd and Almeta; two brothers, Joe Canterbury and Dale Canterbury; sister-in-law, Carole Canterbury; brother-in-law, Joseph Foster; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edward and Margaret McCurdy; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Edna Berry; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Patti Long; brother-in-law Allen Welch; and niece Melissa Bextermueller.
