Donald John "Don" Quamby, Sr., 96, of Wellsville, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2020 at his home in rural Wellsville.

Mr. Quamby was born June 23, 1924 in St. Louis, Missouri, a son of Basil Orville and Johanna (Feldmeier) Quamby.

Don served his country in the United States Army entering on March 1, 1943 and being honorably discharged on November 27, 1945. He served in World War II and was awarded 5 Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, Lapel Button, European African Middle East Theatre Campaign Ribbon, 4 Overseas Bars and the Victory Ribbon.

On June 26, 1966 in Wentzville, Missouri, he married Doris Marie Orf. They shared 51 years together, before she preceded him in death on July 20, 2017.

Don had lived on his home place since he was 7 years old. He was a livestock farmer, raising cattle and hogs. Don loved working on his farm. In his younger years, he had worked at Laclede Christy in Wellsville.

Don is survived by his son, Donald John Quamby Jr. and wife, Tanet, of Wellsville; grandchildren, Allison Sandison, of Rock Falls, Illinois and Bethany Sandison, of Wellsville; sister, Mary Jane Walker, of Martinsburg; in addition to nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Basil and Johanna Quamby; wife, Doris Marie Quamby and sister, Catherine Grover.

Graveside services were at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 29, 2020 at the Wellsville Cemetery. Rev. Finley Price officiated.

Serving as pallbearers were Brian Arens, Jeff Arens, Bryan Muenks, Rodney Scott, Danny Swaim and Josh Swaim.

Missouri Military Funeral Honors folded and presented the United States Flag to his son, Donnie.

Services were under the direction of the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville.

Memorial contributions were suggested to the Wellsville Cemetery Association c/o Myers Funeral Home, 203 East Bates Street, Wellsville, MO 63384.
