Doris Ferne (Thomas) Hunter, 93, of Hemet, California, formerly of Middletown and Wellsville, passed away Friday, June 3, 2016 at her home in Hemet, California.

Mrs. Hunter was born March 27, 1923, in Middletown, Missouri, a daughter of Linley Irl and Grace Edna (Bethel) Thomas.

On December 21, 1940, she married Forrest William Ham. They were the parents of six children.

In 1957, Doris moved with her daughter to California.

She married Oliver Hunter in 1960 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They lived in the Mojave Desert for over 20 years.

Doris had worked at the Marine Corp Supply Base in Barstow, California as a computer operator and computer programmer. She loved her job working with young Marines. After 23 years of service, she retired in 1980.

Doris and Ollie moved to Victorville, California and lived there for a few years, then moved to Camp Verde, Arizona until 1988, when Ollie passed away. Doris then moved back to California and built a home in Hemet. In 2014, Doris sold her home and moved into a retirement community.

She loved flower gardening. Doris also enjoyed going fishing in Missouri, especially trout fishing. She liked playing cards. Doris was very active in all the churches she went to and enjoyed working and being involved with them. She was a devout Christian and loved the Lord. Doris enjoyed children.

Doris is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas William "Tom" and Kathy Ham, of Wellsville; daughter and son-in-law, Karen Faye and Jeff Prevost, of Redlands, California; step-daughters, Joy Hart and Vee Hunter; grandchildren, Tyler Prevost and Mikela Smith and husband Cameron; step-grandchildren, Christy and Darren Donaldson, Cherie and Shannon Smith, Allen Hart and Kevin Hart; great-grandchildren, Lily Smith, Abby Smith and Jude Smith; step great-grandchildren, Clay Jeffrey, Cami Donaldson, Drake Smith, Cade Smith, Sam Hart, Arlo Hart, Brittany Hart, Cody Hart and Jan Stiegleman; sister and brother-in-law, Margie and Troy Bishop, of Albany, Georgia; sister-in-law, Alice Thomas; friend and caregiver, Karen Fletcher; in addition to nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Oliver Hunter; infant twins; daughter, Connie Ferne Ham; son, Stephen Lee Ham; four brothers, Lindell, Emery, Wilde and Harold Thomas and step grandson, Dan Hart.

Graveside services were at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 18, 2016 at the Wellsville Cemetery. Rev. Ron Case officiated.

Services were under the direction of the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville.
