Gary Lane Poindexter, 64, of Vandalia, passed away Monday, February 8, 2021 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri.

Mr. Poindexter was born December 2, 1956 in Mexico, Missouri, a son of John Lloyd "Sparky" and Mildred Frances (Oliver) Poindexter.

He was a 1975 graduate of Wellsville-Middletown R-1 High School.

In 2011 in Louisiana, Missouri, he married Laura Jane Wright-Cutsinger. They have lived in Vandalia since 2016. Prior to that, Gary had lived in Louisiana and Bowling Green.

Gary had been employed at Kaiser/National Refractories in Mexico as a brick maker. He later went to work at Creech Brothers in Troy and Transworld in Curryville for over 20 years as a diesel mechanic.

He was a former member of the Jaycee's and Optimist.

Gary enjoyed fishing and music. He was also a skilled baker and movie buff. More than anything, he loved his wife, children and grandchildren.

Gary is survived by his wife, Laura Jane Wright-Cutsinger, of Vandalia; children, Anthony Scott Poindexter, of St. Ann, Cynthia Marie Bradley and husband, John, of Kansas City, Molly Louise Garman and wife, Sel, of Bowling Green and Lucas Daniel Truman Poindexter and fiancee', Kati, of St. Ann, Natasha Leigh (Bobby Benson) Wright, of Columbia and Joshua William (Jamey) Smith, of Hannibal; grandchildren, Marcus, John and Gillian Poindexter, of Warrenton, Caleb, Jarrod and Ella Bradley, of Kansas City, Kyler Wright-Benson, of Columbia and Jackson, Jacob, Jasper and Jaeleona Smith, of Hannibal; brothers and sister, Michael Dean (Juanita) Poindexter, of Houma, Louisiana, John Mark (Darla) Poindexter, of Wellsville, Robyn Dea (Leonard) Vierling, of Boonville and Jeffrey Graves (Monica) Poindexter, of the State of Texas; in addition to several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mildred Poindexter and sons, Kyle William Turner-Wright and Tyler James "TJ" Smith.

At Gary's request, there were no services held.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville.
