George Leroy Erwin, 78, of Martinsburg, passed away at 9:45 a.m., Thursday, April 14, 2016 at his home.

George was born June 8, 1937, in Shamrock, Missouri, a son of Marlin Ellsworth and Florence Marie (Brown) Erwin.

When George was younger, he attended the Lutheran church.

On October 15, 1961, in Mexico, Missouri, he married Peggy Ann Sitton, sharing over 54 years together.

George and Peggy have lived at their present address since 1970 and George had lived in the Martinsburg area most all of his life.

He started working for Bill Kersting driving a truck. For a while he drove a logging truck in the mountains of California. George later went to work for Missouri Concrete and then went to work as a concrete salesman for Columbia Redimix.

George enjoyed golf and watching baseball and football. He also liked mowing, gardening and woodworking.

George is survived by his wife, Peggy Ann Erwin, of the home in Martinsburg; children and spouses, Georgeanna Kramer and husband, Chris, of Martinsburg, Donald Van Johnson and wife, Sara, of Montgomery City and Barbara Cope and husband, Ed, of Martinsburg; eight grandchildren and spouses, Mike and Tracy Johnson, of Holt Summit, Candy Johnson and Donnie Maddox, of Calwood, Michelle and Berry White, of Mexico, Rachael and Brian Forman, of Mexico, Ashley and Jerry Crum, of Martinsburg, Isaiah and Chasity Kramer, of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Elisha Kramer, of Mexico and Jeremiah Kramer, of Mexico; twelve great-grandchildren, Alysa and Alexa Knipp, of Mexico, Peyton and Colton Johnson, of the state of Michigan, Alexander Johnson, of Holts Summit, Kasey, Emily, Justice and Raiden Kramer, of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Kendall Kramer, of Mexico and Clayton and Dalton Crum, of Martinsburg; brothers and sisters and spouses, Carol Lou "Babe" and Norb Wieschaus, of Columbia, Frances Jane Orrill, of Mount Pleasant, Texas, Virgil "Boogie" Erwin, of Auxvasse and Glen and Carolyn Erwin, of Mexico; sister-in-law, Sharon Erwin, of Warsaw, Indiana; in addition to nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Donald Van Johnson Jr.; great-grandson, Dylan Crum; sister, Elberta "Bert" McGrew and brothers, Edwin Curtis Erwin and Wayne Ellsworth "Sport" Erwin.

George was cremated and there will be family services held at a later date.
