James Allen Dunbar, 97, of Wellsville, passed away at 6:34 a.m., Wednesday May 4, 2022, at Gamma Road Lodge in Wellsville.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2022, at Hopewell Baptist Church in Wellsville with Pastor Jonathan Bradley officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Hopewell Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday from 10 a.m. until the service.

James was born on June 24, 1924 to Paul E. and Berilla (Wells) Dunbar of rural Wellsville.

James served in the US Army during World War II in Europe as a member of the 191 st Tank Battalion. He was a member of Wellsville VFW Post 3056. After the war, James returned to his family farm in rural Wellsville where he farmed with his brother Paul. In addition, James was a seed salesman with Pioneer Hybrid and later Garst Seed Company and a salesman with Farmers and Laborers Insurance. He also enjoyed gardening and canning. He is remembered for his exceptional memory and enjoyed sharing stories of the past with his family and friends.

He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

Survivors include one brother, Paul W. Dunbar, of Wellsville; one sister Hilda Bridges, of Troy, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Paul E. Dunbar; mother, Berilla Dunbar; step-mother Wilhelmina "Minnie" Dunbar; an infant brother, Robert and brother, John Dunbar; three sisters, Laverne McLean, Melba Tribble, and Wilma Flowers; four brothers-in-law, William Bridges, Dale Tribble, George McLean, and Sheldon Flowers; and one sister-in-law, Dorothy Dunbar.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hopewell Cemetery Association. They may be sent in care of Myers Funeral Home, 203 E. Bates Street, Wellsville, MO 63384.
