James Lee "Jim" Moore, 71, formerly of Mexico, passed away at 4:58 p.m., Sunday, August 14, 2016 at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans' Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.
Mr. Moore was born July 8, 1945, in Greenport, New York, a son of Howard Lee Moore Jr. and Bessie Marie Carlson Moore.
He served his country in the United States Navy, entering on October 6, 1964 and being honorably discharged on February 5, 1969, serving in the Vietnam War. Jim was the recipient of the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon.
On October 7, 1968 in Portsmouth, Virginia, he married Shirley Mae Stuart. They were married over 45 years and were the parents of a daughter.
Jim grew up in the Nashville, Tennessee area but lived most of his life in Mexico, Missouri.
He worked at A.P. Green Brick Plant in Mexico for thirty years, retiring in 2005.
Jim was a member of the V.F.W. Post 3772 in Mexico, Mexico Moose Lodge 1706, Optimist Club, and Freedom of the Road Riders.
He enjoyed gardening and always had a huge impressive garden. Jim also loved fishing with his grandsons.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Karen Moore; close family friend, Barb Boland; grandsons, Josh Moore and wife, DeAnna, and Kyle Fisher; great grandsons, Ashton and Preston Moore; brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Dot Moore, of the state of Georgia.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Mae Moore, and his parents, Howard and Bessie Moore.
Visitation was held from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m., Thursday, August 18, 2016 at the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville.
Graveside services were at 12:00 noon, Thursday, August 18, 2016 at the Wellsville Cemetery.
Burial was in the Wellsville Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Karen Moore, Barbara Boland, Josh Moore, Kyle Fisher, Matt Moore, and Ron Moore.
Full Military Honors were provided by the Wellsville V.F.W. Post 3056. Missouri Military Funeral Honors Team folded and presented the United States Flag to his daughter, Karen.
Memorial contributions were suggested to the Mexico Moose Lodge 1706 c/o Myers Funeral Home, 203 East Bates Street, Wellsville, MO 63384.
