Janis Marie "Jan" Anderton, 68, of Wellsville, passed away unexpectedly at 4:20 a.m., Sunday, August 13, 2017 at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital – Audrain in Mexico, Missouri.

Mrs. Anderton was born December 6, 1948, in Fulton, Missouri, a daughter of Marvin and Helen Marie (Hudspeth) Craghead.

On March 30, 1968 at the Christian Church in Fulton, Missouri, she married Michael Eugene Anderton, sharing over 49 years together.

Jan was a 1966 graduate of Fulton High School. She received her Bachelor of Science in Education at the University of Missouri – Columbia, attending from 1966-1970. Jan graduated with her Masters in Education in 1973 from Truman State University in Kirksville.

She was a teacher at Wellsville-Middletown R-1 High School from 1970 -1996, teaching business classes. Jan taught at St. Joseph Catholic School in Martinsburg, from 1998-2001. She was loved and respected by all the students that she instructed.

Jan was a Christian Church Minister where she served the Christian Church in Santa Fe. She had also served at Rush Hill, Bethel and Wellsville. Jan was a member of the United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in Wellsville where she was active in the bible study classes and also the Church Women United. She was a former member of the Wellsville Christian Church.

She enjoyed collecting glassware and making stained glass pieces. Jan was an avid traveler and had gone to England, Ireland, Germany, China, New Zealand, Australia and the Caribbean.

Jan is survived by her husband, Michael Eugene "Mike" Anderton, of the home in Wellsville; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Michael and Lori Anderton, of Austin, Texas and granddaughter, Emma Anderton, of Austin, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Anderton was cremated and there will be no services at this time.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville.
