Joan DeTienne, 85, of Wellsville, passed away at 1:50 p.m., Monday, July 5, 2021, at Boone Hospital in Columbia.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Martinsburg with Fr. Philip Kane officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery in Middletown.

Visitation will be from 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday at Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville.

Joan was born October 26, 1935, in St. Louis, the daughter of Chester and Genevieve (Burhenna) Daugherty. She had formerly been married to Wesley "Pete" DeTienne, and they were the parents of six children.

Joan lived in the Wellsville and Middletown area most of her life. She moved to the area with her parents from St. Louis at the age of 12. She attended high school through her junior year and at the age of 54 she completed her GED.

She began working in 1954 at the Elders in Bowling Green, and over the years she also worked at Swingmaster Garment Factory in Wellsville, Bobbie Brooks in Vandalia, L&R in Vandalia and she finished her career working at Gamma Road in Wellsville, and as an independent private healthcare provider.

Joan enjoyed reading, needlework, embroidery, vegetable and flower gardening, traveling and camping, and she had been to every state in the country except South Carolina and Alaska.

She was a former member of the Harmony Club of Middletown. And she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Martinsburg.

Survivors include one son Richard Lee "Pud" (Christine) DeTienne, of Wellsville; and two daughters, Sharon Faye (David) Welschmeyer, of Martinsburg, and Lori Elizabeth DeTienne, of Martinsburg; ten grandchildren, Johnna Ann Logue, of Martinsburg, Genevieve Alyssa "Genny" Welschmeyer, of Martinsburg, Sarah Catherine Welschmeyer, of Wardsville, Mark Jordan (Amanda) Welschmeyer, of Auxvasse, Marcus Arthur (Saara Emilia) DeTienne, of Helsinki, Finland, Fancy Renae Polacek, of Fulton, Joshua Lee DeTienne, Wellsville, Devon Marie DeTienne, of Montgomery City,  and Ryan James (Amanda) Niekamp, of Fulton, and Elizabeth Kirsten Niekamp (Ryan Finley), of Des Moines, Iowa; one daughter in law, Melinda "Mindy" DeTienne, of Mexico; eight great grandchildren, Charlie and Axal Gaithright, Meadow Polacek, Garrett and Charlene Welschmeyer, Adelynn Niekamp, Kadence Niekamp, and Nora DeTienne; two sisters in law, Virginia Daugherty, of Hazelwood, Mo., and Donna DeTienne, of Vandalia; one brother in law, Virgil (Jenny) DeTienne, of Las Vegas, Nevada.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Joann DeTienne; two sons, Wesley Arthur DeTienne, and Randall Albert DeTienne; one grandson Garrett Mathew Welschmeyer; and two brothers, Earl Edward Daugherty, and Donald A. Daugherty.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fairmount Cemetery or the Wellsville Cemetery. They may be sent in care of Myers Funeral Home, 203 E. Bates Street, Wellsville, MO 63384.
