John Winfred Carr, 88, of Montgomery City, formerly of Middletown, passed away at 12:10 a.m., Saturday, June 25, 2016 at New Florence Nursing and Care Center in New Florence, Missouri.

Mr. Carr was born September 11, 1927, in New London, Missouri, a son of George Richard and Rosa Romaker Carr.

John served his country in the United States Army, entering on April 12, 1946 and being honorably discharged on April 20, 1947. He was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal.

On May 15, 1948, in Montgomery City, Missouri, he married Norma Jean Hill.

John had been employed as a switchman for Terminal Railroad for over 30 years in St. Louis. He had lived in St. Louis and St. Charles for several years. After he retired, he moved to Middletown and then to Montgomery City.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing. John loved to play pool.

John is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Deborah Jean "Debbie" and Michael Araiza, of St. Peters; son, John Winfred Carr Jr., of Dallas, Texas; grandson, Chad Winfred Tankersley, of St. Peters; granddaughter, Christine Werlinich and husband, Josh, of Auburn, Washington and a great-granddaughter, Juliana Werlinich, of Aurburn, Washington.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Glennon Carr, Alvin Carr and Stephen Carr and sister, Rosemary Carr.

Mr. Carr was cremated and as he requested, no services were held. Burial of his cremains was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Montgomery City.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Myers Funeral Home.
