John G. "Mule" Wilson, 74, of Martinsburg, passed away at 12:44 a.m. Wednesday December 27, 2023, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mexico.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 1, 2024, at the Wellsville Cemetery. Myers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

John Garrett Wilson was born on February 8, 1949, in Mexico. He was the son of Clyde and Marjorie (Garrett) Wilson. He lived his entire life in the Wellsville/Martinsburg area.

He was a 1967 graduate from Wellsville-Middletown R-I. Mule served in the US Navy from 1968 to 1969. He was stationed on the USS Rankin in the Mediterranean Sea. After the service he worked as a truck driver for Oliver Trucking in Mexico, Triple V Trucking in Martinsburg, and for a short while as an owner operator by himself.

He was a member of the Cowboy Church of Ashland, Missouri, and the American Legion of Martinsburg. He was a huge supporter of the St. Jude Children's Hospital. He especially supported the Higbee Saddle Club's "Saddle Up for St. Jude" trail ride. He also enjoyed going to horse and tack sales. In recent years, most of the time he could be found visiting with friends at the coffee shop.

Survivors include one brother, Richard C. Wilson (Peggy), of Wellsville; one sister, Joyce Leanne Wilson, of Fulton; one brother-in-law, David Harris, of Portland, Missouri; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, a brother, Charles Gail Wilson; one sister, Mary Alice Harris; one nephew, Benjamin Harris; and one great-great nephew, Zaedyn Davis.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital. They may be sent in care of Myers Funeral Home, 203 E. Bates Street, Wellsville, MO 63384.
