Johnny Mitchell, 81, of Martinsburg, passed away at 1:34 a.m., Monday June 24, 2024, at Pin Oaks Living Center in Mexico.

A visitation will be held from 5 – 7 p.m. Friday June 28, 2024, at Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville. Private burial will be held in Liberty Cemetery near Shamrock.

Johnny was born August 16, 1942, in Martinsburg. He was the son of Walter William and Lois Athaleen (Mitchell) Mitchell. On June 7, 1996, in Wellsville, he married Georgia Dahn, who survives.

Johnny was a graduate of Community R-VI. He farmed for most of his life in Martinsburg. The only time away from the farm was when he served in the US Army in Vietnam. He enjoyed playing cards and driving to town for coffee and visiting. He also loved working in the yard and tinkering with his lawn mowers. He was a member of Martinsburg Community Church.

In addition to his wife he is survived by one brother, Robert Dean Mitchell (Margie), of Oronogo, MO; one sister in law, Betty Mitchell, of Thornton, CO; nieces and nephews, Vicki (Mike) Masters, of North Glenn, CO, Bill (Leeann) Mitchell, of Aurora, CO, Steve (Roxanne) Mitchell, of Parker, CO, Valerie (Eric) Bader, of Columbia, MO, Cheryl Mitchell of Houston, TX, Dan (Donna) Mitchell, Oronogo, MO, and several great nieces and nephews and cousins including Donnie (Nan) Kelsick, of Buford, GA, and Paula Gruber (Jim Stumbaugh), of Montgomery City, MO; one step daughter, Tammy Purvis, and the ones who called him grandpa, April Steffen (J.J.), and Meya and Zeevia, Steffen, all of Martinsburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, William Wayne Mitchell; a cousin that he was very close to, Richard Kelsick; and an aunt and uncle who raised him after his parents passed away, Glen and Pauline "Pean" Dryden.
