Judith Louise "Judy" Hoer, 74, of Laddonia, passed away at 11:41 a.m., Thursday, April 7, 2016 at her home.
Mrs. Hoer was born January 31, 1942, in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, a daughter of Russell Veldon and Carmen Ursel (Hinkle) Guinn.
On June 22, 1963, at the Immaculate Mary Parrish in Kirksville, Missouri, she married Paul Everett Hoer. Together for over 52 years, they loved spending time together and being with their family.
Judy was a 1960 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. She continued her education, graduating in 1964 from Northeast Missouri State Teacher College in Kirksville receiving her Bachelor of Education.
After starting their married life in Buckner, Missouri; Judy and Paul moved to their present address in 1970 to care for Paul's elderly parents.
Mrs. Hoer was an elementary school teacher for 43 years. She started her teaching career at Fort Osage in the Jackson County School District, continuing on to Community R-VI, Wellsville-Middletown R-1, St. Joseph Catholic School in Martinsburg, and Perry Christian Academy. Additionally, she was a tutor at St. Brendan Catholic School in Mexico as well as privately. Admired and loved by so many students, she will forever be in the hearts of all the lives she touched throughout her years of education.
For many years Judy owned and operated Pebbles and Posies, where she designed flowers for numerous weddings. She had also worked for several flower shops in the area.
Mrs. Hoer was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Martinsburg and a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society.
She enjoyed quilting and had made numerous memory quilts that were donated to organizations for benefit raffles. Judy also liked making doll clothes.
Judy is survived by her husband, Paul Everett Hoer, of the home in Laddonia; three children, Jonathan Hoer and wife, Paula, of Mexico, Leslie Wilson, of Mexico and Christopher Hoer and wife, Christine, of Parker, Colorado; six grandchildren, Adam, Daniel and Abigail Hoer, of Columbia and Emily, Ashley and Justin Hoer, of Parker, Colorado; sisters and brothers-in-law, Joy and Roy Gilleard, of Mount Pleasant, Iowa and Donna and Donnie Fillinger, of Lockridge, Iowa; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Diane Guinn, of Tucson, Arizona; step-sister, Joyce Young, of Tucson, Arizona; step-brother, Virgil Barr, of Mount Pleasant, Iowa; in addition to nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, Russell Guinn; mother, Carmen Guinn Barr; step-father, Earl Barr; infant brother, Timothy James Guinn and son-in-law, Phil Wilson.
A Memorial Mass was at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 11, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Martinsburg. Father Augustine Okoli officiated. Serving as organist was Palmyra Dubbert. Cantor was Brenda Hale. A private family interment was in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, south of Martinsburg. Services were under the direction of the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville.
Memorial contributions were suggested to St. Joseph Catholic School in Martinsburg or Community R-VI Elementary School c/o Myers Funeral Home, 203 East Bates Street, Wellsville, Missouri 63384.
