Kathy Elaine Bertels, 56, of Martinsburg, passed away Saturday, April 17, 2021 at her home, surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Bertels was born September 23, 1964 in Mexico, Missouri, a daughter of William James and Sandra Marie (Ahrens) Blaue.

On November 8, 1986 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Martinsburg, she married Timothy John Bertels, sharing over 34 years of marriage together. Kathy and Tim have lived at their present address since their marriage. She was raised in the Wellsville area.

She was a 1982 graduate of Wellsville-Middletown R-1 High School. Kathy continued her education at Moberly Area Community College where she received her Associates Degree in Nursing.

Kathy had been employed as a Registered Nurse at Audrain Medical Center in Mexico, for several years as well as working for a short time at Callaway Hospital in Fulton. In earlier years, she worked at Gamma Road Lodge in Wellsville and Wicks Outdoor Works in Montgomery City.

Kathy was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Martinsburg.

She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking and baking. Kathy loved attending sporting events of her girls. She also loved to camp and fish. More than anything, she loved her grandchildren.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Timothy John "Tim" Bertels, of the home in Martinsburg; daughters and sons-in-law, Elaina Kay and Ayrn Scott Knipfel, of Martinsburg and Pamela Ann and William James Byrne, of Bridgeton; three grandchildren, Emmersyn Gene Knipfel, Chase Paul Knipfel and Ensley Elaine Knipfel, of Martinsburg; parents, Bill and Sandy Blaue, of Wellsville; sisters and brother and their spouses, Cindy and Sam Fort, of Wellsville, Terry and Julie Blaue, of Wellsville and Shirley and Joe Harby, of Middletown; in addition to nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, C.S. "Tenny" and Ruth Bertels.

A Memorial Mass was at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Martinsburg. Father Austin Okoli officiated, assisted by Deacon Ron Deimeke. Serving as organist was Palmyra Dubbert. Cantor was Candy Bertels.

Visitation was held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service, Wednesday, at the church.

Services were under the direction of the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville.

Memorial contributions were suggested to St. Joseph School c/o Myers Funeral Home, 203 East Bates Street, Wellsville, MO 63384.
