Leonard Wylie "Butch" Roberts, 70, of Montgomery City, passed away at 4:36 p.m., Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri.
Butch was born January 20, 1947, in St. Joseph, Missouri, a son of Leonard William and Opal Mae (Rall) Roberts.
On June 11, 1967 at the First Baptist Church in Montgomery City, he married Marlene Anne Brumagin. They shared over 49 years together and would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. They were the parents of two daughters.
He was a 1965 graduate of Faucett High School. Butch continued his education, attending Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar.
Butch was a sales representative for Ozark National Life for over 35 years.
He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Montgomery City.
Butch was a handyman and could fix most anything. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, gardening, bird watching and also enjoyed woodworking. More than anything, he adored his grandchildren and loved spending time with them.
Butch is survived by his wife, Marlene Anne Roberts, of the home in Montgomery City; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carla Lee and Nathan Thurman, of New Florence and Amy Beth and Steven Hill, of Montgomery City; mother, Opal Mae Roberts, of Agency; eight grandchildren, Brandon Lee Thurman, Joshua Owen Thurman, Denver Jordan Thurman and Levi Webster Thurman, of New Florence, Zachary Steven Hill and wife, Kennedy, of Montgomery City, Lauren Lee See and husband, Clayton, of Montgomery City and Hayden Crosby Hill and Logan Gentry Hill, of Montgomery City; two great-grandchildren, Kenzee Ellen and Kylo Orion Hill, of Montgomery City and sister, Deborah Lynn Roberts, of Agency.
Butch was preceded in death by his father, Leonard William Roberts.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Faith Baptist Church in Montgomery City. Dr. Marvin White officiated. Serving as pianist was Christina Hank. Soloist was Mark Stevens.
Burial was in New Providence Cemetery in rural Montgomery City. Serving as pallbearers were his grandsons and granddaughter, Brandon, Joshua, Denver and Levi Thurman, Zachary, Hayden and Logan Hill and Lauren See.
Visitation was held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at the church.
Services were under the direction of the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville.
Memorial contributions were suggested to Faith Baptist Church in Montgomery City or CAM (Christian Agricultural Missions) c/o Myers Funeral Home, 203 East Bates Street, Wellsville, MO 63384.
