Harriet Marie Adams, 79, of Middletown, passed away Friday, June 12, 2020 at St. Andrews of New Florence.
Mrs. Adams was born February 11, 1941 in Grayville, Illinois, a daughter of John and Hazel Iona (Aborn) Sturm.
In December 1955 in Paris, Illinois, she married John Joseph Elles. They were the parents of four children. She then married Verlin Dwayne Sikes in 1971 in Lake County, Indiana. Marie married Donald Ray Adams in 1989 in Montgomery City. He preceded her in death on August 24, 2002.
Marie lived in Indiana, before moving to Wentzville and then to the Wellsville/Middletown area in 1975.
She had worked as a Certified Nurses Aide for most of her life. Marie was employed at the Montgomery County Health Department for over 15 years. She had worked for Gamma Road Lodge in Wellsville and New Florence Nursing and Care Center for several years, before doing private in home health taking care of several people in the area.
Marie enjoyed cooking. She had a love for animals, taking care of people and especially being with and taking care of her children and grandchildren.
Marie is survived by her children, Sandra Jean Nolan and Jack Poncy, of Kansas City, Barton James Elles, of Santa Fe, James Patrick Elles, Sr., of Martinsburg and Rose Marie Moreau and Dale Poore, of Columbia;grandchildren, Lisa Marie Smart, of Troy, Dale Allen Smart II and wife, Cassey, of Middletown, Darlene Beth Elles, of Lincoln, Illinois, Dawn Marie Marrin and husband, Ronnie, of Branson, Barton James Elles, Jr., of Columbia, Christopher and Tamara Elles, of Houston, Texas, James Patrick Elles, Jr., of St. Charles, Kristen Nicole and Kevin Ranzone, of O'Fallon,Michael Moreau, of Columbia and Christina RaeLewis and husband, Brandon, of Moberly; great-grandchildren, Olivia Marie Johnson and husband, Dwayne, of Moscow Mills, Alicia Louise Smart, of Troy, Dale Allen Smart III, of Middletown, Hannah Marie Smart and Kerra Grace Smart, of Middletown, Aimee Lee Wormington and Austin Smith, of Rolla, Tyler Kronk, of Mexico and Dylan Kronk, of Fulton, Alex Crow, of Springfield, Bart, Sam, Ben, Will, Eli and Isabelle Elles, of Columbia and Kaleb and Riley Lewis, of Moberly;four great-great grandchildren, Dwayne Johnson, Jr., of Moscow Mills, Jayce Smart, of Troy, Ashton Smith, of Rolla and Althena Elles, of Columbia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Ray Adams; grandson, Matthew Charles Moreau; great-grandson, Jaykob Ryan Smart; six brothers and sisters, John Sturm, Gene Sturm, Ann Robinson, Donald Sturm, Violet Green and Mary Chastain.
Marie Adams was a kind and caring person. She was a compassionate caretaker, and adored animals. She was a dedicated mother first and foremost, her children and grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life. The legacy of Marie's kind spirit, and compassion, will live on through them.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A Celebration of Life Service was at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville. Rev. Jonathan Bradley officiated.
Visitation was held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service, Wednesday, at the funeral home.
