Marilyn Elizabeth Houston, 68, of Vandalia, formerly of Wellsville, passed away on Sunday February 18, 2024, at University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville. Burial will be at a later date in Wellsville Cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Family and friends are invited for a meal and fellowship following the service at the Wellsville VFW Post.

Marilyn was born on August 4, 1955, in St. Louis. She was the daughter of James Earl and Alberta (Wallace) Houston.

Marilyn was a 1974 graduate of Wellsville-Middletown High School. She was named the first Black Homecoming Queen in School History her senior year. She later attended Truman State and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Social Work.

Marilyn worked as a social worker in St. Louis for the Police Department and for a Daycare. She had also worked various places including the Conoco Station in Vandalia, for Pike County Agency for Developmental Disabled, and for Hallmark Cards in Kansas City.

She enjoyed doing Macramé, cooking, and listening to music. She had also done some modeling.

Marilyn loved all her nieces and nephews and enjoyed spending time with family.

She is survived by five brothers, Joseph Houston, of Fort Worth, Texas, Tommy Lee Houston, of Kansas City, Mo., Percy Houston (Karmen), of Kansas City, Mo., Fred Johnson (Connie), of Springfield, and James Houston, of St. Louis; five sisters, Doris Marshall (Nathaniel), of Blue Springs, Diane Houston-Carter, of Shawnee Mission, Ks., Denise Johnson, of Vandalia, Patricia Delfayette, of St. Louis, and Robin Michelle Johnson, of Kansas City, Ks.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Nathaniel Houston.
