Mary Ellen Boeckelman, 83, of Wellsville, passed away at 1:00 a.m., Friday, March 25, 2016 at SSM Health – St. Mary's Hospital Audrain in Mexico, Missouri.

Mrs. Boeckelman was born April 28, 1932, in Centralia, Missouri, a daughter of John Roy and Hattie Kathleen Flowers Vance.

She was a 1952 graduate of Hallsville High School.

On September 7, 1958, at the Methodist Church in Centralia, Missouri, she married Herbert Fred Boeckelman. They celebrated over 56 years together, before he preceded her in death on April 22, 2015.

Mary Ellen and Herbert had lived at their home in rural Wellsville since 1958.

While her husband, Herb, worked Mary Ellen disked and took care of the farm. Mary Ellen and Herbert also had over 900 laying hens at one time. She also had worked as a janitor at Mercantile Bank in Montgomery City for over 10 years.

Mary Ellen was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Wellsville where she was a member of the Lutheran Ladies Aid as well as other church clubs.

She enjoyed mowing. Mary Ellen also loved her dogs and cats. She liked watching television and loved her Snickers bars.

Mary Ellen is survived by her daughters, Margaret Kay Strauss, of Montgomery City and Lucinda Ann Ham and husband, Richard, of Wellsville; grandchildren, Tavessa Sue and Jake Blackshier, of Kansas City, Tristan Jay Strauss, serving in the U.S. Army, stationed in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, Stephanie Marie and David Carmona, of Ft. Pierce, Florida, Chad Michael Strauss, of Montgomery City, Ashley Lynn Strauss and fiance' Kyle Vomund, of Mexico, Tessa Marie Ham and fiance' Anthony Barnett, of Wellsville and Dayton Alan Ham, of Wellsville; great-grandchildren, Korbin Dallas Blackshier, of Kansas City, Graciella Carmona and Elias Carmona, of Ft. Pierce, Florida, Xavier Wideman, of Montgomery City and Anya Strauss, of Mexico; sister-in-law, Verda Ida Seville, of Valley Park and nephew, Tom Seville, of Valley Park; in addition to nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Fred Boeckelman; parents, John and Hattie Vance and brother, Earl Wayne Vance.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville. Rev. Luke Wolters officiated. Serving as organist was Eldora Lowry.

Burial was in the Wellsville Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Brian Boeckelman, David Ham, Dayton Ham, Dennis Lehnen, Herb Schnittker and Tristan Strauss. Honorary pallbearers were Richard Ham, Tom Sevilleand Donald Wainscott.

Visitation was held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, March 28, 2016 at the funeral home.
