Neva Lee Poindexter Winfrey, 100, of Wellsville, passed away at 4:15 p.m. Friday December 31, 2021, at her home.
Neva was born in Harrold, South Dakota on November 4, 1921. She was the daughter of Alton and Beulah (Deardorff) Boicourt. She graduated in 1938 from Martinsburg High School.
On August 31, 1940, in Montgomery City, she married Karl Garth Poindexter. Together they operated the Poindexter Slaughter House. Neva and Karl had six children. Surviving are three sons, Daniel G. "Dan" Poindexter (Peg), of Wright City, Steve Karl Poindexter (Janet), of Wellsville, and Roger Lee Poindexter (Cheryl), of Mexico; and two daughters, Carol "Joyce" Wimmer, of Troy, and Patricia Kay "Patsy" Stevenson, of Wellsville. One daughter preceded her in death, Betty "Jane" Poindexter. Her husband Karl also preceded her in death on January 2, 1989.
On December 3, 1992, in Wellsville, she married Charles Woodrow "Chuck" Winfrey. He preceded her in death on March 21, 2004.
Neva was a Christian by faith. She kept very busy either crocheting, playing cards, watching or listening to Cardinal's Baseball, or tending to her flower beds. Her #1 joy was her family and making and gifting her crocheted items to family and friends.
In addition to her children, survivors include her numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her two husbands and one daughter; she was preceded in death by her parents; six sisters; four brothers; one grandson, D.J. Pennington; and one great grandson, Timothy Shane Penrod.
At her request the family is holding a private service. Serving as pallbearers are Justin Penrod, Jacob Stevenson, Tom Price, Trey Thomas, Gavin Poindexter, and Gage Marshall. Myers Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wellsville Cemetery Association. They may be sent in care of Myers Funeral Home, 203 E. Bates Street, Wellsville, MO 63384.
