Stephen Hubert "Steve" Welschmeyer, 92, of Martinsburg, passed away at 5:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at Golden Living Center/Gamma Road Lodge in Wellsville.
Mr. Welschmeyer was born September 12, 1923, in Martinsburg, Missouri, a son of Gerhard and Mary Theresa Bertels Welschmeyer.
He was united in marriage to Eunice Elizabe th Arens on November 23, 1950 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Martinsburg, sharing over 65 years together. Steve and Eunice have lived in Martinsburg all of their life.
Steve was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Martinsburg and a member of Knights of Columbus Local No. 1270.
He began as a dairy farmer with his father and converted the farm to a cattle and crop operation. Steve was an avid cattle feeder.
More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Steve is survived by his wife, Eunice (Arens) Welschmeyer, of the home in Martinsburg; six children, David (Sharon DeTienne) Welschmeyer, Martinsburg, Valerie (Steve) Doerr, Joplin, Vickie Robinson, Montgomery City, Venita (Rick) Thomas, Olathe, KS, Darrell (Barbara Jean Wilson) Welschmeyer, Martinsburg and Vanessa (James) Kerr, Mexico; seventeen grandchildren, Genevieve (Jonathan) Jeffus, Sarah Welschmeyer, Mark (Amanda Nickles) Welschmeyer, Danielle Doerr, Stephanie Vogt, Suzanne (Terry) Morris, Kamela Clark, Michael Robinson, Andrea Thomas, Valerie (Tyler) Williamson, Jessica (Sami) Jenedi, Matthew Thomas and Rachael, Olivia, Grace, Vivian and Stephen Kerr; four great-grandchildren Makayla Morris, Mason Morris, Garrett Welschmeyer and Charlene Welschmeyer; two sisters, Mary Lou Gebuhr, Indianapolis, IN and Elizabeth (Anthony) Becker, Martinsburg; and leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Garrett Welschmeyer, son of David and Sharon Welschmeyer; one son-in-law, Charlie Robinson, husband of Vickie Robinson; two brothers, Joe Welschmeyer and Larry Welschmeyer and one sister, Catherine Holtkamp.
Visitation was held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 5, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Martinsburg.
Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 6, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Martinsburg. Father Joseph Abah and Deacon Ron Deimeke officiated. Co-Celebrants were Father Greg Oligschlaeger and Father Mark Porterfield. Serving as organist was Palmyra Dubbert. Cantors were Jan Schafer and Brenda Hale.
Burial was in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, south of Martinsburg. Serving as pallbearers were Michael Robinson, Matthew Thomas, Sarah Welschmeyer, John Becker, John Fryer, Ronnie Welschmeyer and Eddie Wieberg. Honorary pallbearers were Gary Becker, Bob Holtkamp, James Welschmeyer and Mark Welschmeyer.
Services were under the direction of the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions were suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph Catholic School or the charity of the donor's choice c/o Myers Funeral Home, 203 East Bates Street, Wellsville, MO 63384.
