Sylvia Marie Leverett (Apollo) of Chesterfield, Missouri passed away on January 11th, 2025 at Evelyn's House in Creve Coeur, Missouri.
A memorial service will be held from 3:00-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Faith Baptist Church in Montgomery City, Missouri.
Sylvia was born on February 22, 1943 in St Louis, Missouri and was one of 4 children of Carl Phillip and Virginia Anne Apollo (Turin). Sylvia was a 1961 graduate of Southwest High School. She worked for a couple of years as a secretary before entering nursing school at St. Luke's Hospital and graduated in 1967 as an RN. On January 27th, 1968, Sylvia married the love of her life, Martin Charles Leverett at St. Aloysius in St Louis, Missouri. They shared 56 wonderful years together and had 3 children and 11 grandchildren & 3 great grandchildren: Jesse Carl Leverett, wife Melissa Loree (Hundey) Leverett, Alex, Foster, Aiden and Clover; Melissa Anne (Leverett) Brumagin and husband Dan Brumagin, Megan (husband Luke), David (wife Grace), Josiah and Gideon; Jason Charles Leverett and wife Portia Ann (Erdel) Leverett, Quinn, Kale and Prim.
From an Italian family, Sylvia grew up on the Hill in St Louis, MO. She lived there until age 24 when she married Martin and moved to Middletown, MO to live and work on the farm. Although a valuable partner to Martin on the farm, Sylvia continued to also work as a nurse until she retired. This was one of Sylvia's most cherished roles in life. She had a lifelong passion for nursing and caring for people. Her first job was at St Luke's Hospital and after marriage worked at Audrain Medical Center in Mexico, MO. She also held positions as the school nurse at Wellsville-Middletown R-1 schools, Director of Nursing at Gamma Road Lodge and staff Veteran's Home in Mexico, MO.
Sylvia loved cooking. At big family gatherings where she would make many Italian family favorites making sure everyone was stuffed. She also enjoyed painting and crafting, which gave her great joy. Later in life she loved to care for the wild songbirds in her backyard along with flower gardening. She liked to craft colorful bird houses and culture a beautiful garden setting where she and Martin would sit and enjoy the birds.
Sylvia was proceeded in death by her husband Martin Charles Leverett, parents Carl and Virginia, and her brother Pete. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, sister Carol Masgio (Apollo), brother Carl Apollo Jr., and numerous other family and friends.
