Thomas Ray "Tom" Oliver, 72, of Wellsville, passed away at 9:49 a.m., Sunday, August 20, 2017 at his home, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Oliver was born September 12, 1944 in Montgomery City, Missouri, a son of Ervin Tinsley and Martha Lee (Butler) Oliver.
He was a 1962 graduate of Wellsville High School.
On November 2, 1963 in Mexico, Missouri, he married Leona Ruth "Tody" Stuart. They celebrated over 53 years together and were the parents of 3 sons.
Tom and Tody had lived in Wellsville from 1976 until moving to rural Wellsville in 1996, where they have resided for the past 21 years.
Tom had worked at Beacon Shoe Factory in Jonesburg before being employed at McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis for 10 years as an electrical technician. He then went to work for the Wellsville Fire Brick, for over 28 years, maintaining numerous roles of skidding brick, setting brick and finally as a grinder before he retired when it closed down. Tom had then gone to work for New Florence Wood Products, Women's Eastern Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center in Vandalia and the Callaway Nuclear Power Plant.
He was a member of the Wellsville Jaycees for many years, on the Horseshoe League through the VFW and the Bowling League in Montgomery City and Mexico. Tom was a member of Loutre Shore Country Club in Hermann for over 30 years.
Tom was an avid golfer. He enjoyed bowling and had even bowled two perfect 300 games in his lifetime. Tom loved fishing and playing cards and horseshoes. He liked to hunt quail, turkey, deer and geese.
Tom is survived by his wife, Leona Ruth "Tody" Oliver, of the home in Wellsville; three sons, Stephen Ray Oliver and wife, Christina Lynne, of Columbia, Lonnie Dean Oliver and wife, Lisa Michelle, of Centralia and Travis Wayne Oliver, of Wellsville; seven grandchildren, Tyler Ray Oliver and wife, Danielle, of Tucson, Arizona, Lee Brett Oliver, of Jefferson City, Erin Malyn Oliver, of Montgomery City, Sarah Linn Oliver, of Centralia, Kyle Mitchell Oliver, of Martinsburg, Gavin Tinsley Oliver, of Columbia and Seth Thomas Oliver, of Wellsville; two great-grandsons, Dylan and Eli Oliver, of Tucson, Arizona; sisters and brothers and spouses, Betty Crim, of Pawpaw, Michigan, Robert and Rita Oliver, of Wellsville, Bill and Kim Oliver, of Wellsville, Eva Heisner, of Fairfield, Illinois and Iva and Bob Cope, of Bellflower; in addition to several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-dad, Victor Davis; step-mom, Frances Oliver; brother, Ronnie Oliver and nephew, Robby Oliver.
As Tom requested, he was cremated and there will be a Celebration of Life held at a later date.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville.
