Velma May Dodd, 86, of Wellsville, passed away at 10:38 a.m., Sunday, May 15, 2016 at her home in Wellsville.

Mrs. Dodd was born May 31, 1929, in Paris, Missouri, a daughter of George Bryant and Sadie Ray Young Roberts.

On August 21, 1946, in Paris, Missouri, she married Leon Marshall Dodd. He preceded her in death on January 29, 2000.

Velma was a homemaker. She had been a school cook and janitor for the Wellsville-Middletown R-1 Elementary School. Velma had also worked as a housekeeper for Gamma Road Nursing Home for over 8 years. For several years, she enjoyed babysitting.

She had lived in Wellsville for over 46 years before moving to Hallsville from 2005-2012. Velma moved back to Wellsville in 2013.

Velma was a member of the First Christian Church in Wellsville and a member of CWF, Christian Women's Fellowship. She was also a charter member of VFW Ladies Auxillary, member of Montgomery City VFW Auxillary and a member of Royal Neighbors.

She enjoyed canning and cooking and was well known for her butterhorn rolls. Velma's pride and joy was her family, she loved the time she got to spend with each of them.

Velma is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Leona May and Tom Howell, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; son, George David Dodd, of Farber; grandchildren and spouses, Jessica Katheline Howell, of Hallsville, Christina Denise and Kenneth Rossics, of Pacific, Roberta Michelle and Richard Goolie, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Marshall Thomas Howell, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, David Leon and Amanda Dodd, of San Antonio, Texas and Jimmy Joe and Angela Dodd, of San Marcos, Texas; great-grandchildren, Chloe Sky Goolie, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Ryland Marshall Huffman, of Hallsville, Cody Mason Dodd and Sydney Gekler, of San Antonio, Texas, Deyven Alexander Dodd, of Dunbar, West Virginia and Lillie Marie Dodd and Tessa Marie, of San Marcos, Texas; brothers, Elbert Bryant Roberts, of Shelbina and Eugene Lonnie "Gene" Roberts and wife, Elaine, of Shelbina; sister-in-law, Sue Roberts, of Shelbina; in addition to several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leon Marshall Dodd; five brothers, Raymond Lee Roberts, Walter Edward Roberts, Carl Ray Roberts, Phillip Arthur "Sixty" Roberts and Lee Roy Roberts and five sisters, Mary Louise Jackson, Dora Dean Roberts, Winona Pearl Roberts, Wanda Grace Roberts and Nellie Lorene Winterbower.

Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 19, 2016 at the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville. Rev. Justin Franke officiated.

Burial was in the Wellsville Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were her grandchildren, David Dodd, Jimmy Dodd, Jessica Howell, Marshall Howell, Christina Rossics and Kenny Rossics. Honorary pallbearers were Jared Dodd and Elbert Roberts Jr.

Visitation was held from 12:00 noon until the time of service, Thursday, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions were suggested to the First Christian Church in Wellsville Myers Funeral Home, 203 East Bates Street, Wellsville, MO 63384.
