Carrie Jean Tagg, 87, of Bowling Green, formerly of Middletown, passed away Thursday, October 8, 2020 at Parkside Manor in Bowling Green, Missouri.
Mrs. Tagg was born May 6, 1933 in Mammoth Cave, Kentucky, a daughter of Marcellous Mitchell and Carrie (Holton) Davis.
She was a 1951 graduate of Kirkwood, Illinois High School. Jean graduated from Busselle Cosmetology School in Davenport, Iowa in 1951.
On June 28, 1953 in Kirkwood, Illinois, she married LaFrancis “Buck” Tagg. They shared 36 years of marriage together, before he preceded her in death on October 10, 1989.
Jean had lived in Bowling Green with her son for the past several years. She had also lived in Mexico, Shelbyville, Illinois and Middletown.
Jean was the owner/operator of Jean Franc Salon in Wellsville from 1970-1990.
She enjoyed reading Amish series books as well as sewing. Jean also loved going out to eat and gambling on the river boats. More than anything, she loved being with her family.
Jean is survived by her children and their spouses, John Richard “Rick” (Jessica) Tagg, Sr., of Bowling Green, Doris Ann “Dodie” (Scott LaZear) Bowers, of Shelbyville, Illinois, Theresa Lynn (David) Emmerton, of Little Rock, Arkansas and Pamela Ethel Merkling, of Troy; nine grandchildren, John Richard “Ricky” Tagg, Jr., of Vandalia, Danielle Nichole (Chris) Spears, of Fort Worth, Texas, Kayla Janelle (Kevin) Charlton, of Laddonia, Erik Michael Bowers, of Columbia, Lauren Jeanne (Andrew) Hawkins and Tessa Louise Bowers, both of Shelbyville, Illinois, Tony (Carrie) Maxam and Brian (Heather) Maxam, both of Troy and Corey Smith, of Kansas City; several great-grandchildren; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, LaFrancis “Buck” Tagg; daughter, Francine Maxam; son, John Francis Tagg; thirteen brothers and sisters, Noda Locke, Lucy Skaggs, Sylvia Esthers, Carl Davis, Elcie Thiering, Bill Davis, Roe Davis, Bert Davis, Lorraine Quayle, Geneva Gott, Gladys Davis, Elizabeth Riemolds and Doris “Flunky” McGuire.
Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 11, 2020 at the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville. Rev. Jonathan Bradley officiated.
Visitation was held from 12:00 noon until the time of service, Sunday, at the funeral home.
Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Montgomery City, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were Erik Bowers, Kevin Charlton, Mike McGuire, JD Mitchell, Corey Smith and Ricky Tagg, Jr.
