Harold Eugene “Butch” Folta, 64, of Wellsville, passed away Friday, December 18, 2020 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri, with his family by his side.
Butch was born December 30, 1955 in Mexico, Missouri, the only son of Harold Edward and Shirley Jean (Dunn) Folta.
He was a 1973 graduate of Wellsville-Middletown R-1 High School.
On June 8, 1974 at the United Methodist Church in Middletown, he married Carylle Ann Eckler. They shared over 46 years of marriage together and were the proud parents of two daughters.
Butch was currently employed at NexGen Agronomy Solutions, formerly Schafer Fertilizer, in Martinsburg. Prior to that, he worked at LaCrosse Lumber in Wellsville and the Wellsville Fire Brick Company for many years.
Butch was a lifelong member of the community who spent countless hours volunteering his time and energy with groups in and around the Wellsville area. Butch was a member of the Wellsville Fire Department, DSN 914, since 1974, serving as Captain since 1985. He also served as a First Responder. He was seen at countless calls throughout the years. Butch was a former Alderman for the City of Wellsville, served on the Montgomery County Fair Board for a number of years, former President of the Khoury League and a former member of both the Wellsville and Montgomery City Jaycees.
Butch was an avid outdoorsman, his favorite pastime was camping with his wife, Carylle Ann, and family and friends. In earlier years, Butch coached and umpired baseball and played slow pitch softball for the Wellsville Fire Brick team. Butch also liked to coon hunt in his 20s and 30s and deer hunted most years. Butch’s pride and joy was his family, especially his grandkids, he seldom missed one of their events.
Butch is survived by his wife, Carylle Ann Folta, of the home in Wellsville; daughters, Sherie Beth Folta, of Knoxville, Tennessee and Adrienne Joy Bailey and husband, Aaron, of Union; four grandchildren, Presstin Thomas, Morgan Joy, Reagan Marie and Madison Grace Bailey, of Union; sister, Deborah Kathleen “Kathy” Fox, of Fulton; aunt, Iva Jean Benskin, of Wellsville; in addition to several brothers- and sisters-in-law and a gaggle of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold “Hap” and Shirley Folta and father- and mother-in-law, Tom and Barb Eckler, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Private Family Graveside Services were Monday, December 21, 2020 at Smyrna Cemetery in New Hartford, Missouri. Rev. Bill Debo officiated. Serving as pallbearers were his nephews, Greg Booker, Ben Eckler, Ethan Eckler, Kyle Eckler, James Estill and JT Heinecke.
Services were under the direction of the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville.
