Larry Lee Vomund, 72, of Martinsburg, passed away Sunday, November 22, 2020 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri.
Mr. Vomund was born May 15, 1948 in Mexico, Missouri, a son of Linton Cecil and Margaret Pauline (Harrison) Vomund.
He was a 1966 graduate of Community R-VI High School.
On June 7, 1969 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Columbia, Missouri, he married Corless Eugenia Calhoon. They shared over 51 years of marriage together and were the parents of three children, Scott, Leslie and Matthew. Larry had lived all of his life in Martinsburg.
He was a farmer and stockman. Larry raised livestock, including sheep, hogs and cattle. He also served several customers as a livestock order buyer. Larry was also a trucker, hauling livestock, feed and fertilizer.
Larry was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Martinsburg as well as the Knights of Columbus. He was also a former member of Buckaroo Saddle Club.
Larry enjoyed going to livestock sales and in his younger years, riding horses and quail hunting. His pride and joy were his grandchildren. He loved spending time with them and taking them wherever they needed to go.
Larry is survived by his wife, Corless E. Vomund, of the home in Martinsburg; children, Scott Curtis Vomund and wife, Nikki, of Martinsburg, Leslie Ann Carter, of Martinsburg and Matthew James Vomund and wife, Michelle, of Montgomery City; grandchildren, Aaron Robert Carter and Lane Alan Carter, of Martinsburg, Harrison Matthew Vomund and Emma Elizabeth Vomund, of Montgomery City and Clayton Thomas Welch and Brayden Edward Allen, of Martinsburg; brothers and sisters and spouses, Joseph Linton and Paula Vomund, of Martinsburg, Stephen Bernard Vomund, of Moberly, Carl Eugene and Rose Vomund, of Martinsburg, Janette Maria Vomund, of Fulton and Paul Dean “Pete” and Cindy Vomund, of Moberly; brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law, James “Jim” Purvis, of Martinsburg, Larry and Barb Calhoon, of Centralia and Ann Goosey, of Centralia; in addition to several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Linton and Pauline Vomund; son-in-law, Robert Alan Carter; nephew, Jared Martin; sister-in-law, Catherine Purvis and brother-in-law, Del Goosey.
Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Martinsburg. Father Austin Okoli officiated, assisted by Deacon Ray Purvis. Serving as organist was Ruth Wilson. Cantor was Brenda Hale.
Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, south of Martinsburg. Serving as pallbearers were his nephews, Larry “Buck” Calhoon, Josh Goosey, Jake Martin, Eddie Joe Vomund, Kyle Vomund, and Zac Vomund.
Services were under the direction of the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville.
