Lillian "Dolly" Louise (Hewitt) Tilson

December 26, 1930 ~ December 12, 2020 (age 89)


            Lillian Louise “Dolly” Tilson, 89, of Center, formerly of Granite City, Illinois, passed away Saturday, December 12, 2020 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law’s home, Carol and Rickie Wieberg.   

            Mrs. Tilson was born December 26, 1930 in Mountaindale, Maryland, a daughter of Cleveland and Nanny Bell (Rice) Hewitt.

            She married Charles “Tom” Tilson.  He preceded her in death on November 2, 1995.

            Dolly had lived in Center for the past 20 years.  She was born and raised in the State of Maryland, before moving to Granite City, Illinois where she lived until moving to Center.

            Dolly had been a member of World of Life Tabernacle in Granite City, Illinois.

            She had several jobs during her lifetime, but her most memorable was to be the first female to drive an armored truck for Brinks Security in St. Louis.  Dolly retired from Bank of America in St. Louis, where she was also one of the first female armed guards. 

            Dolly was well known in the St. Louis area for her singing and playing music at local clubs and events, along with her husband.  She played the drums as well as sang.  Dolly enjoyed raising roses and always had a well-kept yard. 

            Dolly had a very long and colorful life.  She was well liked and will be missed by many.

            Dolly is survived by her son and daughters, James Phillip Vincent and wife, Julie, of Shiloh, Illinois, Carolyn Louise “Carol” Wieberg and husband, Rickie, of Center, Nancy Vincent - Rosenkrans and husband, Todd, of Middletown and Connie Farley, of Camdenton; nine grandchildren, Dana Miles, Bridget Pulley, Missy Keelin, Bret Leonard, Robbie Farley, Jamie Williams, Heather Sims, Krista DeLaVega and Sonny Vincent; 12 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; in addition to many nieces and nephews.

            She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles “Tom” Tilson; four brothers, Walter Hewitt, Ben Hewitt, Sherman “Tom” Hewitt, Charles “Bud” Hewitt and five sisters, Anna Stull, Isabelle Baker, Ethel “Tuppy” Wiles, Mary Weddle and Ester Clements.

            Private Family Graveside Services were at Brookshire Cemetery in Newberg, Missouri.  Serving as pallbearers were Jorge DeLaVega, Austin Leonard, Bret Leonard, Todd Rosenkrans, Phillip Vincent, Sonny Vincent and Rick Wieberg.

            Services were under the direction of the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville.
